Duncan struggled with his little piece of ice. He cried out and fell back on his backside. He sighed, but couldn’t help but smile as his reindeer companion nudged him. He smiled and patted his nose. “Thanks, buddy…”

The eight year old climbed to his feet and tried again. Again and again he tried as the bigger men around him carried chunk after chunk of ice to their sleds. It was dark out, the northern lights blazing in the sky when he finally made managed to place his ice block on his sled.

Duncan looked up in alarm as he noticed the other ice-harvesters leaving the frozen river’s edge. He climbed onto his ice block.

“Hurry, Sven!” He urged. Sven nodded and headed after the bigger sled, his tongue lolling out of his head.

Duncan wasn’t the only child awake that night. Several miles away, in a castle, a girl poked her head over the edge of her sister’s bed. “Hannah!” She climbed up onto the bed, her black hair up in a ponytail. “C’mon, let’s play!”

Hannah groaned. “Go to bed, Kim…” She said tiredly.

“I can’t!” Kim said, sprawling herself on top of his dramatically. “The sky’s awake… So I’m awake… So we have to play!”

“Go play by yourself!” Her shoved Kim off of her. The girl plopped to the ground on her backside. She sat there for a moment in thought, then she got an idea. She popped her head over the edge of the bed. “Do you wanna build a snowmaaaan?”

Hannah smiled ever so slightly and opened one eye.

          “Come on come on!”

“Shh, Kim!” Hannah tried to quiet her sister as she practically dragged her down the stairs to the main level of the castle, but she couldn’t hide her smile. Kim finally let go of Hannah’s hand and looked at her eagerly. “Do the magic! Do the magic!” She urged eagerly.

Hannah looked around as if to make sure no one was looking, then grinned and created a snowball in her hands out of nothing but icy blue light as Kim watched in awe. She threw the snowball up and it burst in midair, sending snow showering all over the room. She smiled at his awestruck little sister. “Watch this!” She slammed her foot down on the ground, and a sheet of ice went all across the floor.

Kim laughed and slid across it. The two played in the ice and snow within the castle for hours. Not long after Hannah made the indoor ice-rink, she and Kim built a snowman out of the snow. Hannah went behind it and moved its stick arms around like it was talking. “Hi! I’m Simon! And I like warm hugs!” She said in a funny voice.

Kim clapped excitedly. “I love you, Simon!” Hannah smiled and took a step back as she threw her arms around the snowman.

It wasn’t long after that when it happened.

Hannah made a small pile of snow and Kim jumped on top of it. Then she made another, bigger one. Kim laughed and jumped on top of that one. Again and again they repeated this, getting higher and higher up. Eventually, Kim started to jump too fast for Hannah to account for. She started to worry. “Hold on, Kim!” She said. The little girl paid no attention, having too much fun. She leapt off the top of a particularly high mound. “Catch me!” She shouted.

“Wait!” Hannah, in a panic as she knew she wouldn’t be able to catch her, shot a single streak of ice out of her hands. It struck Kim in the head, and she immediately went limp. She landed on another snow mound and slid down the side unmoving.

Kim’s eyes widened. “KIM!” She ran to her side and knelt beside her. She took her head and held it on her lap, tears falling from her eyes. She stared down at her in fear as a white streak went down her jet black hair, the same color as her natural hair. She looked up in fear. “Mama, Papa!” She shouted.

She held Kim close to her as ice began to form even thicker all around the room without him noticing. “It’s okay, Kim… I got you…” She said, her voice quaking.

There was a loud noise and their parents rushed to their side. “Hannah, this is getting out of hand!” His father shouted.

“I-I didn’t mean it!” Hannah pleaded.

“Hannah, what have you done?” Their father picked up Kim worriedly as their mother felt her cheek. “She’s ice cold!” She said.

Their father hesitated. “I know where we have to go…” He said.

.         .         .

Two horses rushed from the castle, one of them leading a streak of ice behind it. Across the country they rode, passing a little boy on a reindeer as they went. Duncan looked back at them, then noticed the trail of ice on the ground. “Ice…?” He asked. He looked at the two again. “Sven, go!” The reindeer turned and ran after the two horses.

The king walked into a clearing filled with round rocks, carrying Kim, as the queen stood behind, holding tightly to Hannah’s hand. “Please, can someone help me?” He called. “My daughter needs help!”

There was a great stir and the rocks all shuddered to life, rolling into the clearing. Duncan watched in shock as they formed into stone trolls and looked at the king and queen in surprise.

Then, the oldest troll rolled down the center and stood up, his short oaken staff in hand. “There is strange magic here.” He said, his voice grim. “Come, come, bring her to me!” The king bent down so the troll could see her. He quickly rested a hand on her forehead and sighed. “She has ice inside her.” He said.

As Duncan watched from behind a rock in awe, he didn’t notice the troll looming up behind him until it was right there. He gasped as he finally saw her there, but before he could make any other sound, she shushed him and looked at the elder troll excitedly. “Here comes the best part!”

“I recommend we remove all magic from her mind. Even memories of magic.” The Elder Troll touched Kim’s forehead and then swiped his stony hand away. As he did, a streak of icy magic fluttered through the air and disappeared. He sighed in relief. “She’ll be alright...”

Meanwhile, the troll smiled at Duncan and Sven, grinning broadly.
“Little cuties…” She hugged the two tightly. “I’m gonna keep you!”

Hannah looked down at her sleeping sister sadly. “So she won’t remember I have magic?”

“It’s for the best… Princess, listen to me.” The troll said. He took hold of Hannah’s hand. “You must learn to control your power, or one day it will control you. Fear will be your greatest enemy.” He created an image in the air that was the outline of Hannah - only older. She appeared to be terrified, looking around at slow moving black clouds around the room. Suddenly, the black clouds consumed her. Hannah cried out and hid her face in her mother’s dress.

“We can stop it. I’m sure Hannah can learn to contain her powers.” The king said. “We’ll seal off the castle. Lock the doors... Limit the staff. We’ll protect her from the outside world until she learns to control her powers, and keep her hidden from everyone… Including Kim. Anything to keep our children safe...”

He looked down at Kim sadly.

    .         .         .

Kim looked around her room, a white streak now in her hair. It was so empty without Ridge’s bed in it too. Of course, her parents had said that it was time for him to get his own room because he was getting too old to share, but Kim still found it lonely. But that didn’t mean they couldn’t still play together.

Kim hopped off her bed and ran out of her room. She ran excitedly down the hall until she came to Hannah’s new door. As she turned the corner, she saw her just about to go into her room. Hannah looked up as Kim approached and her expression instantly grew distraught. She quickly swept into her room, closing and locking her door behind her.

Kim stared after her, the young girl’s expression crestfallen. Maybe they really couldn’t still play together after all…

And of course, LalnaSounds implied >:3
